Pricing & Fee Guidance
1. How Expert Witness Fees Are Determined
Our chambers prepares medico-legal reports for civil, criminal, family, and Court of Protection proceedings. Expert witness fees in the UK are governed by contractual agreement between instructing solicitors and our members, subject to CPR Part 35 and the Legal Aid Agency’s Remuneration Regulations. The court retains discretion under CPR 35.4(4) to limit recoverable costs between parties, though this does not override private fee agreements.
2. Key Regulations Governing Expert Witness Fees
Instructions accepted by our chambers comply with the following UK frameworks:
- Civil Procedure Rules Part 35 and Practice Direction 35
- Legal Aid Agency’s 2024 Remuneration Regulations for legal aid cases
- Civil Justice Council 2014 Guidance on Expert Evidence
- Academy of Experts’ fee guidelines for privately funded matters
- GMC and HCPC professional standards for expert witnesses
3. Professional Body Fee Guidance
Our chambers aligns its fee structures with the guidelines issued by the UK’s leading professional bodies for expert witnesses. These documents provide benchmarks for medical expert witness fees in the UK and are routinely cited in cost disputes.
